Subject: A Case Study on TEDI-London’s temporary home in Canada Water
Andrew is an Associate at Hawkins\Brown Architects where he has been for 10 years. Andrew has been involved in a wide variety of projects across varying scales and typologies, covering commercial, residential, cultural, mixed-use and education. He was the project lead on the Canada Water Innovation Hub, where he helped deliver the first phase to house TEDI-London.
Andrew is driven by a keen interest in high-quality design coupled with innovative construction methods through off-site prefabrication. Through his professional career, he has been involved in designing and delivering several projects which employ a variety of MMC technologies, including high rise hybrid CLT, modular construction. Andrew was also seconded to a major UK housing association where he helped develop in-house MMC strategies as part of a roadmap to deliver more homes quicker.
This joint presentation between Hawkins\Brown Architects and Premier Modular, describes the context and vision for the temporary Innovation Hub development for British Land in Canada Water. The presentation will also use the first phase of development, which houses TEDI-London, as a case study in utilising standardised modular construction to provide sustainable and flexible, high quality teaching and workspaces.
TEDI‑London is a new higher education provider co-founded by Arizona State University, King's College London and UNSW Sydney. TEDI-London's transformative engineering education approach delivers project-based learning in partnership with industry, with the aim of producing job-ready graduates. The new 12,000 sqft TEDI-London building designed specifically for them, supports their vision to provide:
- 3 large flexible teaching spaces and a makerspace for students to learn, design and create together
- A double height flexible exhibition, seminar, and student café space that links the teaching spaces together
- A student common room on the second floor, with support spaces opening out onto a large external roof terrace, accessible to all.
